Does size REALLY matter?

We often hear clients say that “Any portrait bigger than an 8x10 is too large.” WHY??

Let me ask a question. How many of you have seen large portraits at your grandparents/parents/relatives homes? The big image of your great grandparents wedding portrait, mounted in an extravagant gold frame. That image that no one leaves out when describing going to their great grandparents home as a child? That one!

Why,now, is an 8x10 "big enough"???

Here’s the deal, if you cannot clearly see an image standing in the middle of the room, it may be too small. You may have been happier going LARGER. After all, if you invest in a lasting memory, wouldn’t you want it to be easily seen to show it off?

Often times, it may be that the 'price' is a determining factor. (Yes, we understand that people have budgets! Who doesn't?!) Try to see it as an investment. Professional photographers use the best labs, and product available, this will ensure that your investment will stand the tests of time! We guarantee your portrait will last to be handed down for generations, if cared for properly.

In addition, if the image is of a loved one/your family… is it really possible to have a portrait that’s too large? I think not!

Let’s get real here, how many admirals or generals paintings have you seen mounted above a crackling fireplace in movies? That’s right, A ZILLION!

A few DON'TS when prepping for Senior Portraits

We are committed to creating unique senior portraits that become lasting pieces of art for years to come.  It's important to us that you take as much care into prepping for your session as we do.  To help you look your best, we've compiled a list of things to avoid during your portrait session.

  • Forgetting to wear makeup - Makeup is essential for our senior ladies.  Be sure to wear foundation that matches your natural skin tone, and experiment with different makeup looks prior to your session. Test foundation shades on your inner arm for best match results. Timber Creek now offers professional hair and makeup services as an add-on!  Contact us for more info.

  • Getting a spray tan - We advise our seniors NOT to spray tan.  In fact, for a few days prior to your session, it's a good idea to avoid getting too much sun.  Your friends and family want portraits that represent how beautiful you are every day.  Unnatural skin tones are very difficult to edit, and can impact the overall quality of your portrait.

  • Glare from eyeglasses - This can be a major hassle during a senior portrait session.  There are a few ways to avoid it.  If you have contacts, wear them.  You can also remove the lenses from your glasses for your session (see previous blog post), or ask your optometrist if they lend out frames with the lenses removed.

  • Neglecting your fingernails - Chances are, your nails will be very visible during your portrait session.  We recommend our senior ladies come to their session with their nails freshly polished.  Our senior men should make sure their fingernails are appropriately groomed for their session as well.

  • Forgetting about accessories - Accessories can add so much to a senior portrait.  Necklaces, rings, scarves, and hats can act as an extension of your personality, which is the most important aspect of your senior portrait.  We love creating portraits that reflect how wonderful you are, inside and out.  Help us by bringing these items with you on the day of your session.

  • Flattened/Straight Hair – Most ladies love the look of smooth straight hair. However, we ask that you not flatten it completely! Add a little bit of volume by flipping your head upside down, and rubbing your fingers on your scalp. Again, we offer hair and makeup services. Let us completely pamper you for the day!

  • Dental Hygiene - This is one of the most VERY important things to pay attention to for your big day. Make sure your teeth are free of food, and plaque! Today's camera technology is very sharp, and Pam is no dentist... Make sure your pearly whites are in great shape for you to show off your beautiful smile.

Stay tuned for more tips and tricks to make the most out of your senior portrait session.

Beauty/Household  Hacks!

Welcome back friends!

Today I'd like to take a minute to share some of my favorite hacks with you! Please Feel free to comment if you have any additional hacks that you love!

1) Use a dryer sheet for:

  •         Stuck/baked on food in casserole dishes.

  •         Press into hairbrush bristles and brush hair to eliminate static.

2) Bloody nose on your favorite blouse? Use peroxide!

3) Out of makeup wipes? Use coconut oil!

4) Shattered powder makeup? Mix powder in compact with alcohol, smooth, let dry. Wa-la! (One of my personal favorites!!!!)

5) Dried out mascara? Add a few drops of contact solution!

6) Use water and ammonia to clean up stuck on hairspray from counter tops, doors, etc.

7) Homemade static guard- Mix liquid fabric softener and water! Also doubles as homemade febreeze!

8) Greasy hair, and no time to wash? Put baby powder in your hands, flip your head upside down, and rub/fluff powder into roots by hairline. Brush to remove extra powder. Also works great as a volume boost!

9) Spilled nail polish on tile/hard surface? Pour sugar on it! It will clump, and you can sweep it away!

10) Want longer looking lashes? Apply 1 coat of mascara, use a Q-tip to put baby powder on lashes, add one more coat of mascara!

A pet SKUNK named flower, and her Bre!

As we've mentioned before, we LOVE when clients bring their pets... THIS pet in particular proved to be very amazing!

Flower (the skunk), Bre, and Theresa came out to play!

(In case you are wondering, yes- Flower is de-scented, vaccinated and licensed!)

Bre and her family rescue animals! And after some research, she decided she'd like to have a pet skunk. Not much later, she got Flower for her 14th birthday!!

Bre is SO amazing with Flower. She did all of the research herself in caring for a pet skunk. It really shows, because Flower is very content and at home when she's in her mom's arms. If she's not, she's sure to have at least one eye on Bre at all times.

Meeting Flower was such a wonderful experience. She was calm, sweet, and cuddly.

It's not everyday you get to snuggle a skunk!!

I hope you enjoy some of the photos from their visit.
